Strengthening Bonds: Indian Minister of State's Diplomatic Visit Enhances India-Tanzania Strategic Partnership"


Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan, conducted an official visit to the United Republic of Tanzania on November 20-21, 2023. During his stay, MoS engaged in a series of significant diplomatic activities. One such meeting involved conveying appreciation to President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar for his steadfast support in bolstering bilateral relations and for his crucial backing of the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus. President Dr. Mwinyi reciprocated the sentiment, emphasizing the Development Partnership with India, particularly highlighting water projects in Zanzibar and the establishment of the first offshore campus of IITs in Zanzibar. Commitments were made to further enhance cooperation between the two nations, spanning trade, investment, and educational initiatives.


Subsequently, MoS visited the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus accompanied by H.E. Lela Muhamed Mussa, Minister of Education & Vocational Training of Zanzibar. Engaging with students and faculty, MoS also inspected the site allocated by the Government of Zanzibar for the upcoming permanent campus of IIT Madras Zanzibar. Further diplomatic discussions ensued during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, H.E. Amb Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk, where bilateral interests were explored, encompassing development partnership, trade, and investment. The visit culminated in the inauguration of the India-Tanzania Business Round Table in Dar es Salaam, where MoS underscored the abundant opportunities and favorable investment climate in India. The event saw the participation of a 30-member CII delegation and a substantial Tanzanian business delegation, reinforcing the growing trade and investment ties between the two nations. The visit concluded with various cultural and community engagements, solidifying the robust India-Tanzania Strategic Partnership.
