India-Myanmar FOC: Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Realising Democratic Aspirations
New Delhi played host to the 20th round of India-Myanmar Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on December 6, 2023. The discussions were led by Foreign Secretary Shri Vinay Kwatra from India and Deputy Foreign Minister of Myanmar, U Lwin Oo, the consultations provided a platform for both delegations to engage in discussions covering a broad spectrum of issues. Addressing shared concerns related to transnational crimes was a crucial aspect of the discussions. Both delegations explored collaborative measures to tackle these challenges, emphasising the importance of joint efforts in maintaining regional security.
India reiterated its unwavering support to Myanmar as it transitions towards a federal democracy. This commitment shows India's dedication to the democratic aspirations of its neighbour. The Indian delegation expressed continued support for people-centric socio-economic developmental projects in Myanmar. This encompasses various initiatives, including connectivity projects and those under the Rakhine State Development Programme and Border Area Development Programme, aimed at benefiting the citizens of Myanmar.
As India continues to stand by Myanmar in its journey towards a federal democracy, the collaborative efforts discussed in the FOC underscore the depth and breadth of the strategic partnership between these neighbouring countries.
