India and Italy: Fostering Strategic Cooperation

Dr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India, undertook an official visit to Italy from November 2 to 3, 2023, following an invitation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Italy. The visit encompassed meetings with high-ranking Italian officials, including the President of the Italian Republic, H.E. Sergio Mattarella, and various ministers. Discussions primarily focused on bolstering strategic cooperation in defense, trade, and cultural exchange, with a notable emphasis on key global initiatives and challenges.


Significant agreements were reached during the visit, including the Migration and Mobility Partnership and the Executive Programme on Cultural Cooperation for the period 2023-27, aiming to facilitate safe and legal mobility between the two nations and promote people-to-people ties, trade, and tourism. EAM Jaishankar's interactions with the Indian community, the India-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group, and senior Italian dignitaries further highlighted the strong historical ties and the commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across various domains.
