Consolidating India-Japan Relations

Shri. V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India, conducted an official visit to Japan from November 8-10, 2023.


During his visit, Minister Muraleedharan engaged in bilateral discussions with Mr. Iwao Horii, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan, addressing various aspects of the India-Japan Partnership. Subsequently, he met with Mr. Taku Ishii, Parliamentary Vice Minister, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, exchanging perspectives on topics of mutual interest. Minister Muraleedharan also held discussions with Japanese business leaders in Tokyo and interacted with members of the Indian community in Tokyo and Osaka.


Following these engagements, Minister Muraleedharan visited the prefectures of Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Oita, where he interacted with senior dignitaries, including Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa, Mayor of Kyoto, and Mr. Kiichiro Sato, Governor of Oita. These visits provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties with these significant prefectures in Japan.


Furthermore, Minister Muraleedharan delivered a lecture on 'India and the Emerging World' at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Oita and visited Otani University in Kyoto to unveil a bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Additionally, he paid homage at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial and the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, unveiled by Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in May 2023.


Minister Muraleedharan's visit served to reinforce the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan.
