A Vision for Tomorrow: President Murmu in Mauritius

President Droupadi Murmu's historic visit to Mauritius highlights the deep-rooted developmental partnership between India and Mauritius, as she inaugurated 14 India-assisted community development projects. Along with the Mauritian PM, President Murmu also laid the foundation stone for the New Forensic Science Laboratory, also to be built with Indian funding assistance. These projects symbolise India's commitment to Mauritius' progress across various sectors, showcasing the tangible outcomes of their strong bilateral ties. 

Indian President Murmu and Mauritian PM Jugnauth oversaw the signing of 4 significant MoUs covering various sectors. These agreements include collaborations in financial services, measures to avoid double taxation, and initiatives to combat corruption. In a bid to improve governance, the UPSC of India and the Public Service Commission of Mauritius will exchange recruitment expertise. Additionally, the CBI of India and the ICAC of Mauritius joined hands to tackle corruption and money laundering. 

India's announcement of granting Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status to 7th-generation Indian-origin Mauritians adds significant weight to the visit. This bold move strengthens bonds between the nations and emphasises India's global diaspora connection. Extending OCI status recognizes the pivotal role of the diaspora in enhancing India's soft power on the world stage. With nearly 70% of Mauritius' population being Indian origin, this reflects the strong historical ties between the two nations.

President Murmu's engagements during her stay include crucial meetings with Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, highlighting the depth of collaboration between the two countries. 

As India and Mauritius continue their collaborative efforts, their strong relationship will only intensify, paving the way for deeper mutual growth and setting a positive example of successful cooperation on the global stage.
