Houthis Pose Maritime Threat
Amidst the maritime chaos unfolding in the Red Sea, the recent incidents in the Bab-el-Mandeb region have once again highlighted the challenges faced by one of the world's busiest shipping routes. Major European shipping companies have begun halting their traffic through the Red Sea following attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The Houthis have declared a blockade of the Red Sea until Israel ceases its military action in Gaza. Controlling most of Yemen's Red Sea coastline, the Houthis are linked to Iran, which is believed to supply them with weapons. They have employed various attack methods, including anti-ship ballistic missiles, drones, and conventional missiles. Their arsenal comprises modified Iranian missiles, drones for targeting, and sea-skimming anti-ship missiles such as the C801 and C802. Other significant threats posed by the Houthis include sea mines and fast attack craft, which could potentially be used in swarm tactics.
